Losing Stomach Fat – Why Ab Crunches Don’t Work

September 5, 2009

One of the biggest myths about how you can lose stomach fat and get those washboard abs, is to do a lot of abdominal crunches every day. Here’s a look at look at the truth about this myth.

One of the things I’d like to mention first is that doing ab crunches, or any other type of ab exercise, is a good thing. It will never hurt you, but it just won’t help you lose the fat. The reason is simple, doing crunches builds up your muscle strength, but it doesn’t remove the fat that is on top of it.

This may seem untrue to some, but look at professional football players as an example. They train every day and are among the strongest athletes on the planet, yet many of them weigh in excess of 300 pounds and have huge stomachs. You don’t see a big offensive lineman with washboard abs, but you can bet they have powerful abdominal muscles.

The key to eliminating the stomach fat is to diet and exercise both. You can not just focus on one area and get the results you are looking for. Once you start losing weight and combine that with ab crunches you will then begin to see a more defined stomach.

Find a good diet plan that is right for you and put it into action along with a good overall exercise program. The results you will see from that will be worth far more than continuing to beat yourself up with ab exercises every day.
